Sony nearly three months ago launched its Xperia Z5 range of smartphones and rumours for the Sony Xperia Z6 Lite series have already started to pour in. Sony was earlier said to launch five smartphones under its Sony Xperia Z6 Lite series, a figure that was later reduced to four as per a leaked T-Mobile roadmap. However, according to a new report, the Sony Xperia Z6 Lite will include one more variant dubbed Sony Xperia Z6 Lite.
Initial leaks hinted at a total of five models, including a 4-inch Sony Xperia Z6 Lite Mini, 4.6-inch Sony Xperia Z6 Lite Compact, 5.2-inch Z6, 5.8-inch Sony Xperia Z6 Lite Plus and a 6.4-inch Sony Xperia Z6 Lite Ultra – talk about spoiled for choice. However, a leaked T-Mobile roadmap later omitted any mention of a Sony Xperia Z6 Lite Mini, dropping the number of devices down to four – two allegedly powered by a Snapdragon 820 and the other by a Snapdragon 652 SoC (previously known as Snapdragon 620). However, a new Chinese source just added another twist to the mystery with talk of a Sony Xperia Z6 Lite.
Xperia Z6 and Z6 Compact Processor and Ram
Sony used the Snapdragon 810 chipset in the recently launched Xperia Z5 flagship. It contains 8 cores and also supports 64-bit. According to a report, Sony Xperia Z6 Lite series will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 820 64-bit SoC which contains Four custom cores named Kryo. These four Kryo cores are going to be clocked at 2.2 Ghz and built on 14nm process. The new Kryo cores are custom cores and also are the successors of Krait cores which powered Snapdragon 800, 801 and 805 chipsets. The Kryo cores are the first 64-bit custom cores from Qualcomm. The Kryo cores are specially designed for heterogenous computing : ability to combine different functional cores of the SoC, CPU, GPU and Hexagon 680 DSP. According to Qualcomm, the new Kryo cores give 2 times the performance of Snapdragon 810 and also 2 times more power efficient than SD 810. Symphony system manager is a new feature coming with Snapdragon 820 chipset. This new feature co – ordinates all cores of SoC, GPU, Display Engine, DSP and Specta Image processor. It clocks the CPU core according to task and also combines different functions of chipset according to needs. According to some alleged benchmarks of Snapdragon 820, it beats Samsung Exynos 7420 chipset and Apple A9 chipset scores. Snapdragon 820 single core score is almost equal to Apple A9 chip single core score. So we will see Sony Xperia Z6 Liteflagship with more processing power than Xperia Z5. Snapdragon 820 also coming with Adreno 530 GPU which is 40% more power efficient than its predecessors. It also gives 40% more performance than Adreno 430 which is present in Snapdragon 810. Snapdragon 820 also contains X12 Modem which can support Cat.12 download speeds (600 MBPS) and Cat.13 upload speeds (150 MBPS). So Xperia Z6 will enjoy much faster download speeds. Hexagon DSP of Snapdragon 820 supports low power operations. More details about the chipset which powers Sony Xperia Z6 Lite will be revealed in coming days. Xperia Z5 contains 3GB Ram so that we may see the next flagship with 4GB Ram.
